Local Club Could Be Closing It’s Iconic Double Doors For Good

Nooooo! Not again! Could Chicago be loosing another iconic venue?!

Looks like the landlords for the 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave Wicker Park venue, The Double Door, are raising a stink again. The current lease for the owners of the Double Door expired October 31st, 2015. The landlord is trying to get them evicted for the 2nd time in the clubs history – since 1994. The last time was in 2005 but a last minute agreement was made that extended them out to 2014. This time, the landlords have hired lawyers and plan to take them to court over it filing a motion in a Cook County Circuit Court.

In an article published by the Chicago Tribune who interviewed a representative from the law firm; “Our hope is that they agree to vacate peacefully. Absent that, we’ll go to trial,” Bonita L. Stone, an attorney for the landlord, told the Tribune on Thursday.”

Let’s hope this gets worked out. This is not just about losing a rock club. It’s history. It’s peoples jobs – lives. It’s a live music outlet. It’s art. It’s a community. This is a place many bands got their start at. Or, a lucky few got to see their favorite act in a small intimate setting. Benefits took place. Fund raisers happened. Beers were shared. Legends were made.

Double Door isn’t talking about it right now, but as soon as we learn more, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, you might want to get out and see a show there, for the 1st, or 20th time. I may be your last chance.
