This past weekend was the Annual Lollapalooza festival here in Chicago. This year it was extended to a four day long event in Grant Park. It’s attended by 100,000 fans each day. There is media covering it from all around the world and of course right here in our own backyards. One of those media folks covering the event along with us here at In The Loop Magazine is a gentleman by the name of Bobby Talamine. Talamine is an iconic photographer in Chicago that has been shooting longer than many of the current generation of photographers have been around. Almost forty years in the business that includes a stint as a house photographer for the Industrial music scene at Wax Trax and Chicago Trax and continues as a resident photographer for the Metro. That is until this past weekend. Unfortunately, Bobby Talamine’s camera was ripped right from his hands and now he has nothing to continue to make those memories with.
While working to cover the multi day event, on the second night of Lollapalooza, someone literally reach over him and the rest of the crowd and yanked his Nikon D4 camera right out of his grip. Not only that, but the images he shot all day long, were gone with it in the memory card. That, plus the lens all equalled several thousands of dollars of gear gone in the blink of an eye.
Talamine tried running after the assailant but no luck. The suspect seemed to have been planning his attack at just the right moment where following would not be possible through the sea of people and the area it happened.
So that brings us to this. A fundraiser has been started. For all the years of visual entertainment Talamine has brought us, there is now an opportunity for us to support him and get him back on his feet to do what he does best.
