On July 10th, country music sensation Brett Eldredge released his latest recording “Sunday Drive”, his fifth since his 2013 debut. In a word, he describes it as “Aware”. Eldredge stated that he dug deeper into introspection mentioning that he has more, and richer life experiences to draw upon for writing.
His single “Gabrielle” demonstrates this introspection. The song captures his vulnerability and kindness for a past love that slipped away. He laments “But girl wherever you are, I wish you well, Gabrielle” sung with a sincere gentleness.
Describing this period as a “reset”, a transitional outlook where Eldredge stopped posting to social media as it became all consuming. Instead he bought a Polaroid camera, slowed down, and started meditating. “Going analogue” in his words. He would find rejuvenation in the simple things, like a walk through the woods. Eldredge gave himself permission to take the necessary time to explore composing and crafting the tracks. A new pace of life that he expects to continue doing.
Originally from a rural south-eastern Illinois, he pays homage to his hometown on the closing track titled “Paris, Illinois”. His short documentary provides fans with a peek into who Brett is, where he is from, and what that all means to him. (https://www.bretteldredge.com/videos)
One gets that sense of his gratitude as he openly appreciates the label and management supporting his reset. Eldredge considered this his best work so far and for good reason, it is from the heart.
