After what seemed like sporadic breaks form touring the Lords have been back at it on a consistent basis the last few years and – as is always the case with the band the question will always be: who will be fronting the band?’ Well this time around it was none other than Carla Harvey (formerly of Butcher Babies).
The set started rocky, the mix was very rough (and not in a good way) for the first four songs where it was mainly drums and vocals with everything else so low you could barely hear it. Not sure of the hiccup there, LOA has a few shows under their belt on this tour and I heard there was a full soundcheck – very odd for a seasoned band on the road.
I’m assuming Ms. Harvey had some set list input because the Lords played a song I dont think Ive ever heard live (maybe once) and that is the extremely metal ‘The Power is Mine (coda)”. The band blasted through that along with the classics such as ‘Rough Sex’, ‘I Sit on Acid’, ‘Let’s Get High’ as well as my personal favorite ‘Scrood Bi U. The backing band has been together for a few tours now and that part shows as they were tight and Galen’s drumming is always on point.
Once the audio issues were worked out the show was high energy with the mainly post 35 crowd moving … maybe just as much as they did in the past. And it should be noted this band has staying power, still selling out clubs almost 40 years into their existence.
Also would be remise without giving a mention to an LOA legend we lost (somewhat recently) … the great Lady Galore/Ruth McArdle, singer during those huge mid 90’s shows and when many of us got to see this band absolutely burn the dance floor to the ground at every night. Rest in peace, Ruth & Praise the Lords.
