Pitchfork has another amazing music festival planned. This one is called, Midwinter. It’s going to be held in our fair city’s grand old museum, The Art Institute of Chicago. Scheduled for three days February, February 15th, 16th and 17th, the event will bring in amazing talent to match the world class art hanging on it’s walls.
For three nights in mid February, 30+ musical acts will take over nearly every space in the Art Institute performing within and among the museums world renowned and wide ranging collection.
Scheduled to perform opening night are; Slowdive (who are on their farewell tour), DJ Koze, Bill Callahan, William Basinski, Mykki Blanco, Mount Eerie, Yves Tumor and Sudan Archives.
Saturday’s line up will include; Kamasi Washington, Panda Bear, Tortoise, Deerhunter, Grouper, Jlin serperntwithfeet, William Basinski.
Sunday’s final line up will be Oneohtrix Point Never, Laurie Anderson, Perfume Genius, Zola Jesus, Joey Purp, Weyes Blood, Hiss Golden Messenger, JPGMAFIA and Smerz.
Midwinter will feature original gallery soundscape compositions from Nico Muhly, Tashi Wada, Julia Holter, Stars of the Lid, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Midori Takada, Visible Cloaks, Helado Negro and LLyas Ahmed.
To attend Midwinter, start by purchasing a Base Ticket, which includes performances and original soundscapes in the galleries, live interviews and broadcasts by Pitchfork Radio, and access to most of the exceptional artworks in the Art Institute’s collection. Single night Base Tickets cost $50. A three-night Base Ticket costs $128.
There are eight additional shows per night that require an Add-On Ticket purchase to access. These are identified on the Schedule page, and you can select to add these shows to your cart during checkout. Add-On Tickets range in price from $15 to $30.
