The South-Side native proves yet again that you don’t need a major label or big names behind you to make it in todays music industry. This is huge news, not only for him, but how this was possible. This was the first time ever that the Academy has ever give an award to a non signed artists with a streaming only album. This is a game changer for artists around the world. His album forced the Academy to change their own rules for allowing artist with physical media only to be excepted (i.e. no CD, Vinyl or other tangible media).
Dawning his signature “No. 3″ hat, Chance exclaimed, “Glory be to God, I claim this victory in the name of the Lord!” he joyously shouted from the stage of the Staples Center. “I wanna thank God for my mother and my father who supported me since I was young … and for Chicago!” He even gave a shout-out to his family watching back home.
