The change in the weather brings out the mobile food tracks, grills, fans and stages. The City of Chicago announced its 2016 Taste of Chicago Music Lineup and as usual, doesn&#8217;t disappoint.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">This year marks the festivals 36th time around and brings out the top notch variety we&#8217;ve become accustom to. \u00a0Starting on July 6th and running to July 10th, some of the highlights include The Roots, KONGOS, The Decemberists, Billy Idol and the Isley Brothers at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park. Truly something for every music lover.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">As always, admission to the Taste of Chicago is free but special seating is available for purchase to select shows. Festival hours are 11 a.m.\u20139 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, and 10 a.m.\u20139 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.\u00a0Tickets for the seating area at the Petrillo Music Shell will go on sale\u00a0<strong><u>Friday, April 29<\/u><\/strong>, at\u00a0<strong><u>10 a.m.<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0at the Taste website,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofchicago.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tasteofchicago.us<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\n\u201cWhen it\u2019s summer in the city, it\u2019s time for the Taste of Chicago and this lineup of fantastic performers will help to make this year\u2019s Taste a festival not to miss,\u201d said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. \u201cThe free admission Taste draws more than a million residents and visitors each summer to experience world class entertainment while celebrating Chicago\u2019s world class culinary scene. I want to thank the performers, chefs, and organizers who are already working to ensure this great Chicago tradition will continue this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Here is the line up by date:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\n<strong><u>Wednesday, July 6, 5:30 p.m.<\/u><br \/>\nThe Roots<\/strong>, GRAMMY\u00ae Award winners and one of the most respected hip-hop acts in the music industry will headline the opening night of Taste of Chicago. Recently they were named one of the greatest live bands by\u00a0<em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u00a0and they currently perform every Monday through Friday as the official house band on<em>The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago artist\u00a0<strong>Donnie Trumpet<\/strong>\u00a0(Nico Segal) will open for The Roots with his bohemian, indie\/hip-hop sound. He has received accolades for his band Donnie Trumpet &amp; The Social Experiment and the band\u2019s 2015 album\u00a0<em>Surf\u00a0<\/em>was named one of the best for 2015 by the Chicago Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by\u00a0<strong>The Illinois Lottery<\/strong>, the concert will begin at\u00a0<strong>5:30 p.m<\/strong>. General seating tickets are $23 and premium seating tickets are $50.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Thursday, July 7, 5 p.m.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Headlining the evening are the\u00a0<strong>KONGOS<\/strong>, a diverse and multi- talented quartet of brothers hailing from South Africa. With their 2014 hit\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Come With Me Now<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the groups popularity took off in the U.S. In June, the band will release their new album\u00a0<em>Egomaniac,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Take it From Me<em>,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the first single was released on April 15.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elle King<\/strong>\u00a0will bring her hits,\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>America\u2019s Sweetheart<em>\u201d\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Ex\u2019s &amp; Oh\u2019s<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0from her 2015 debut album,\u00a0<em>LOVE STUFF<\/em>\u00a0to fans at the Petrillo stage. The album was a follow up to the acclaimed\u00a0<em>The Elle King EP<\/em>\u00a0(2012), which included the single \u201cPlaying For Keeps.\u201d The single became the theme song for VH1\u2019s \u201cMob Wives Chicago\u201d and was picked for a national ad campaign for \u201cMad Men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transviolet<\/strong>, led by Sarah McTaggert\u2019s sultry vocals, will open the evening\u2019s performances. This band on the rise released their four-song EP in September 2015, and will be releasing an album soon. The first single from the EP\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Girls Your Age<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0gained instant online traction, becoming a viral sensation. Another hit song for the group is \u201cNew Bohemia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The concert will begin at\u00a0<strong>5 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0Media support provided by\u00a0<strong>101WKQX<\/strong>. General seating tickets are $15 and premium seating tickets are $32.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Friday, July 8, 5:30 p.m.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Led by Montana native Colin Meloy,\u00a0<strong>The Decemberists<\/strong>\u00a0craft theatrical, hyper- pop songs that draw heavily from late-&#8217;60s British folk acts like Fairport Convention and Pentangle and the early-&#8217;80s college rock grandeur of the Waterboys and R.E.M. After four years in the making,\u00a0<em>What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World<\/em>\u00a0is the band\u2019s seventh studio album released in January 2015. Most notable on the album is the song\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>12\/17\/12<em>,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>named for and inspired by the date that President Obama addressed the nation after the Newtown school shootings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shakey Graves\u00a0<\/strong>is the stage name of Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter and musician Alejandro Rose-Garcia, who will open for The Decemberists. He\u2019s best known for his one-man band set-up, as well as his original and unpredictable approach that results in haunting melodies that blend country, blues and rock. After hearing this charismatic artist live \u2013 Taste goers will be hooked.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by\u00a0<strong>93XRT<\/strong>, the concert will begin at\u00a0<strong>5:30 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0General seating tickets are $23 and premium seating tickets are $50.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Saturday, July 9, 4:30 p.m.\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Billy Idol<\/strong>\u00a0was one of MTV\u2019s first megastars and an early architect of the sound, style and fury of punk rock with his lip-curling sneer and fist pumping persona. During his career he has sold 40 million albums and scored numerous platinum albums worldwide. In the U.S. and U.K., his top-forty singles include \u201cDancing with Myself<em>,\u201d \u201c<\/em>White Wedding<em>,\u201d \u201c<\/em>Rebel Yell<em>,\u201d \u201c<\/em>Mony, Mony<em>,\u201d \u201c<\/em>Eyes Without A Face<em>,\u201d \u201c<\/em>Flesh For Fantasy<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Cradle of Love<em>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Founded by\u00a0<strong>Chris Connelly<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Matt Walker<\/strong>, the band\u00a0<strong>Sons of the Silent Age<\/strong>\u00a0is dedicated to playing the music of David Bowie. Both artists are veterans of the music business, Chris Connelly moved from his native Scotland in the 80s to pursue a career with\u00a0<strong>The Revolting Cocks<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ministry,<\/strong>\u00a0and Matt Walker brought his formidable drum skills to the likes of\u00a0<strong>Filter<\/strong><strong>,\u00a0<strong>Smashing Pumpkins<\/strong><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Garbage<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0<strong>Morrissey<\/strong><\/strong>. The nine-member band of elite Chicago musicians are diehard and dedicated Bowie fans who pour their collective talents into keeping his legacy alive.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by\u00a0<strong>Bud Light<\/strong>, this concert will begin at\u00a0<strong>4:30 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0General seating tickets are $23 and premium seating tickets are $50.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Sunday, July 10, 4:30 p.m.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Isley Brothers featuring Ronald and Ernie Isley\u00a0<\/strong>have brought award- winning soul, R&amp;B and funk to audiences for close to half a century with classics like their 1959 debut with\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Shout<em>,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Twist and Shout<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in 1962,\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Who\u2019s That Lady<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in 1973 and countless others. Recognized by their peers in the music community, the legendary group has collaborated with artists like R Kelly, Lil\u2019 Kim, Whitney Houston, Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis among others.
