Today, actress, musician and recently married New Yorker, Maya Hawke turned a sunny afternoon in Chicago into a full-on celebration of fandom and music during a special in-store appearance at Reckless Records in Wicker Park. Hours before she arrived, the line stretched down the street and around the block, packed with eager fans of Stranger Things<\/em> and devoted listeners ready to get their hands on Hawke\u2019s upcoming new album a full week before release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lucky attendees who pre-ordered Maitreya Corso<\/em><\/em>, Hawke’s 4th studio release, received the coveted double-vinyl edition of the 13-track release on Mom + Pop Music, officially due out May 1st. It’s produced by Christian Lee Hutson\u00a0(known for work with Phoebe Bridgers, boygenius) and it explores themes of protecting creativity from pride and love from control, following a character in a fantasy world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this wasn\u2019t just about receiving rare early copies, it was about connection. Hawke greeted each fan warmly with a disarming introduction: \u201cHi, I\u2019m Maya. Nice to meet you!\u201d It set the tone for an event that felt more personal gathering than celebrity appearance. Not seated behind a table. No red velvet rope blocking her off. Just her and the new album playing subtly in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans (of all ages) approached with glowing smiles, nervous excitement, and stories of how much her work in film, television and music, has meant to them. I asked Hawke how the tour had been going and whether she was excited for the next night\u2019s show. That\u2019s the biggest venue we\u2019re playing so far!\u201d It was the kind of candid excitement that showed she knows Chicago, respects its venues, and clearly enjoys returning here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the afternoon came to a close, Hawke thanked the remaining crowd before being whisked away to her next stop. \u201cThank you all for coming! This was really nice,\u201d she said. It was a simple farewell, but fitting for an event defined by sincerity, gratitude, and the unmistakable feeling that everyone there had shared something special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
