Back in 1965, Andrew Zelek, the proprietor of the Peacock Tavern, was gunned down with extreme prejudice while closing up his bar at 3394 North Milwaukee Ave. Connoisseurs of Chicago\u2019s punk and metal scene will recognize the address as that of Live Wire Lounge. Regulars and staff all have stories of lights going out and cold spots on the stage. Of course, it\u2019s not really a Chicago punk\/metal bar unless it\u2019s haunted. Right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, January 23rd, three local bands will share the stage with Andy\u2019s specter for a night of punk-adjacent weirdness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guns and Ammunition are a tribute to the Clash, who take their name from lyrics to the punk rock classic \u201cPolice & Thieves.\u201d They\u2019ll be starting off the night with some familiar old school favorites by a group once called \u201cthe only band that matters.\u201d Their name is not only a reference to a song, but it also serves as a reminder that the Clash were considered dangerous.  Guns and Ammunition capture the Clash\u2019s vibe by being unapologetically anti-fascist, anti-violent, and anti-racist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WREX<\/a> is a name that should be familiar to anyone in the southside DIY scene. Hailing from the historic Bridgeport neighborhood, WREX are known for their experimental sound and rowdy house shows. Fans have described them as \u201cblackened trip-hop hardcore.\u201d Okay, one<\/em> fan has described them that way. So come on out to figure out what the hell that means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head Caution<\/a> is best described as \u201cpost-punk beat-poetry.\u201d So, think King Missile mixed with Flipper or Shellac. Featuring unhinged spoken word vocals in the form of sardonic poems and short stories backed by a noise-rock-inspired rhythm section, The Head Caution has some clear influences but a vibe that is entirely their own. In other words, they\u2019re an existential crisis set to music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
