Theatrical hard rock maiden Savannah Pope<\/em> <em>opened the show with a short but powerful set of rock \u2019n\u2019 roll bangers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63526\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-04.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-04-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-04-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-04-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Savannah Pope walked onstage wearing a mysterious black cape while Adam Gimenez<\/em> <em>(guitar, synthesizer) handled the music. As she dropped her cape, it was as if a butterfly<\/em> <em>were emerging from its chrysalis and metamorphosing right before our eyes\u2014unleashing<\/em> <em>her imposing yet enchanting persona upon the audience with her bright blonde curls, white<\/em> <em>Victorian-esque corset minidress, and vivid red platform shoes. Throughout her<\/em> <em>performance, Pope paced back and forth and, at one point, left the stage to walk through<\/em> <em>the crowd, drawing the audience into her performance while Gimenez held down both<\/em> <em>guitar and keyboard duties.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63527\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-12.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-12-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-12-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-12-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>As I took in the show, I couldn\u2019t help but think of her obvious influences\u2014David Bowie,<\/em> <em>Queen, and Heart\u2014but I also imagined that theater must have played a crucial role in the<\/em> <em>development of her style. Gimenez\u2019s flashy playing only amplified the theatrical flair as he<\/em> <em>provided all the right embellishments. The crowd ate it up, and some even sucked on<\/em> <em>pacifiers that Pope tossed into the audience as she belted out the lyrics to \u201cDaddy<\/em> <em>Issues.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-20.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63528\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-20.jpg 819w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-20-240x300.jpg 240w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-20-768x960.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>During their set, Pope encouraged the audience to connect with her by noting the following<\/em> <em>phone number\u2014855-963-5013\u2014and texting the word \u201cCreature\u201d to join her private fan<\/em> <em>community. I saw a few folks take it down and can only imagine Pope added new members<\/em> <em>that night. Dressed in a giant pink sequin outfit, he<\/em> <em>commanded attention and set the mood for the night. While the crowd showed their love<\/em> <em>for Bell\u2019s opening number, they went wild when the band kicked into Erasure\u2019s \u201cBlue<\/em> <em>Savannah.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63529\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-13.jpg 819w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-13-240x300.jpg 240w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-13-768x960.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Bell set the pace for the evening, hardly slowing down and all but challenging the crowd to<\/em> <em>keep up. His banter was friendly and inviting, showcasing his confident yet selfdeprecating<\/em> <em>demeanor. Before performing \u201cHeart\u2019s a Liar,\u201d a duet he sang with Deborah<\/em> <em>Harry on his latest solo album, Bell introduced King-Blank and quipped that she\u2019d be<\/em> <em>playing the role of Harry for the next song. The band and audience appreciated the big<\/em> <em>shoes she had to fill\u2014but everyone knew she\u2019d nail it and own it. Bell was gracious,<\/em> <em>praising his touring band members and giving them moments to shine. At the halfway<\/em> <em>mark, Bell stepped aside while the band performed Erasure\u2019s \u201cBreathe,\u201d featuring Fuentes<\/em> <em>and King-Blank on vocals.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-09.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63530\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-09.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-09-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-09-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Andy-Bell-Lincoln-Theatre-Washington-DC-2025-09-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>After a killer rendition of Electric Light Orchestra\u2019s \u201cXanadu,\u201d Bell spent a moment talking<\/em> <em>about their pre-show soundcheck and how the venue was built before PAs and<\/em> <em>microphones were needed\u2014then launched into some operatic vocalisms. The crowd clearly hadn\u2019t had their fill and screamed<\/em> <em>for Bell to return for an encore. Ever the showman, he obliged, delivering a heartfelt<\/em> <em>performance of \u201cThank You,\u201d a somber love song for \u201call the people and friends that came<\/em> <em>along for the ride,\u201d which the audience deeply appreciated. It was an incredible night for a couple of reasons. I loved<\/em> <em>hearing all of Erasure\u2019s hits and never thought I\u2019d get the chance to see them\u2014whether as<\/em> <em>a band or solo artist\u2014so I was grateful for this opportunity. But what truly made it a night to<\/em> <em>remember was seeing my wife, Fleurette Estes, singing and dancing while capturing some<\/em> <em>great photos. I knew she was an Erasure fan, but there\u2019s nothing like a live performance to<\/em> <em>really move people.
