Just in time for Halloween,\u00a0Kokandy Productions<\/strong>\u00a0embraces gothic horror with a revival of\u00a0Jekyll & Hyde<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 the first Chicago staging of the macabre musical in over 15 years. Directed by Producing Artistic Director\u00a0Derek Van Barham\u00a0<\/strong>with music direction by\u00a0Nick Sula<\/strong>\u00a0and choreography by\u00a0Brenda Didier<\/strong>,\u00a0Jekyll & Hyde<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will play\u00a0October 9 \u2013 December 21, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0The Chopin Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0Mainstage<\/strong>,\u00a01543 W. Featuring the full orchestration and a 15-piece orchestra, the epic and sweeping score takes the company to the Chopin Mainstage for the first time, creating a chilling chamber for this haunting tale. Based on the story by Robert Louis Stevenson<\/strong>, Jekyll & Hyde<\/strong><\/em> is conceived for the stage by Frank Wildhorn<\/strong> and Steve Cuden<\/strong>, with book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse <\/strong>and music by Frank Wildhorn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audiences will be taken to the moral limit by David Moreland<\/strong> (Cruel Intentions<\/em>, American Psycho<\/em>) in the titular roles of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde. Ava Lane Stovall<\/strong> (Alice by Heart<\/em>) returns to Kokandy as Lucy Harris (the Red Rat’s main attraction and Hyde’s obsession) andEmily McCormick<\/strong> makes her Kokandy debut as Emma Carew (Jekyll’s fiance). An evocative tale of two men \u2013 one, a doctor, passionate and romantic; the other, a terrifying madman \u2013 and two women \u2013 one, beautiful and trusting; the other, beautiful and trusting only herself \u2013 both women in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind’s most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man that the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nick Sula<\/strong> (Music Director) is an award-winning pianist and music director, proud to return to Kokandy Productions and the Chopin Theatre where he served as music director for the Jeff Award-winning productions of Sweeney Todd<\/em> (Jeff Award for Outstanding Music Direction), Into the Woods<\/em> (Jeff Awards for Outstanding Music Direction and Orchestrations), as well as the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival. Other Chicago theatre music direction credits include: Anything Goes<\/em> (Jeff nomination) with Porchlight Music Theatre; Ghost Quartet <\/em>(Jeff nomination), Mary Rose<\/em>, Nevermore<\/em>, Amour<\/em> and Coraline<\/em> with Black Button Eyes Productions; Myths & Hymns<\/em>, The Glorious Ones<\/em> (Jeff nomination), Hello Again<\/em>, La Cage aux Folles<\/em> and Pippin<\/em>with BoHo Theatre. Brenda Didier<\/strong> (Choreographer) is thrilled to collaborate with Derek (DVB) for the first time and to return to Kokandy after choreographing Grand Hotel<\/em> in 2018 (Jeff nomination). Direction and\/or Choreography credits include work with: Chicago Shakespeare Theater, The Goodman, Marriott, Paramount, Porchlight Music Theatre, Mercury Theater, Theo and many others.
