On Friday, 12 September 2025, Portland, Oregan based indie folk rockers <\/em>Glitterfox <\/em>played<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

to a packed crowd at Comet Ping Pong in Washington, DC, with local singer\/songwriter<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Elmore <\/em>and his band as the opening act. It was clear that the crowd liked what they<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

heard as they danced and clapped and sang along to two very distinct takes on American<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

folk rock.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Elmore and crew opened the night with a set that was equal parts \u201cstomp clap hey,\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruce Springsteen\u2019s cautious working-class optimism, and Joe Stummer\u2019s punk rock angst<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and idealism. Despite his songs about difficult positions, odds, and losses, Elmore had the<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

audience smiling and singing along in a communal experience that could only be<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

described as hopeful. Elmore clearly has something to say and delivers it in a way worthy<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

of our attention. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Sam Elmore and crew and check out<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

their self-released debut EP Hateful Days and <\/em>Sinking Ships <\/em>single released May 2025.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening their set with their beautiful song, \u201c<\/em>TV<\/em>,\u201d Glitterfox provided a perfect introduction<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

for the uninitiated. Drummer Blaine Heinonen commenced with the drums, bassist Eric<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stalker got on board with a driving bassline, guitarist Andrea Walker came in with the<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

melody before Solange Igoa joined them onstage and delighted the crowd with her<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

beautifully unique voice.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formed by Igoa and Walker initially formed Glitterfox in Long Beach, California in 2012<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

before eventually relocating to Portland where Stalker and Heinonen joined them. The<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

band survived relocation, lineup changes, and the romantic breakup between founding<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

members Igoa and Walker, which makes their songs about love and personal<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

transformation feel genuine and beautiful. Glitterfox characterizes their band as a chosen<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

family, and they sure performed like one. So, it was all that Walker\u2019s family and friends<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

came out to support \u2013 apparently, he\u2019s a local \u2013 and Igoa\u2019s wife celebrating the night as a<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

steadfast cheerleader.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After delivering a full course meal 15 originals showcasing their unique blend of 1980\u2019s<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

inspired new wave, power pop, and post-punk infused Americana, Glitterfox ended with an<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

explosive cover of Heartbreaker \u2013 penned by <\/em>Geoff Gill and Cliff Wade, originally recorded<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

by Jenny Darren, and made world famous by Pat Benatar. Igoa stepped off the stage onto<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the floor and invited the crowd to join her in belting out a song that, like her and Walker, has<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

seen some change and confronted heartbreak head on. The audience obliged and shared a<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

cathartic moment and, with any luck, joined the band\u2019s chosen family. Be sure to check<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

out Glitterfox\u2019s debut album, <\/em>decoder<\/em>, on <\/em>Jealous Butcher Records <\/em>released August 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and go see them when they play your town.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
