Few indie rock bands have seen explosive success in the last few years like Wet Leg, whose<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

new album Moisturizer redefines their sound while maintaining all of the tongue-in-cheek<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

humor of their first record. And if their stunning performance at the Salt Shed on Wednesday is<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

any indication, the sky is likely the limit.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Opening with \u201ccatch these fists\u201d from Moisturizer, the band sailed through nearly both albums\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

worth of material in just seventy minutes, showing off their penchant for short, punchy guitardriven<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

tunes that often mix up huge, singalong choruses with singer\/guitarist Rhian Teasdale\u2019s<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

cheeky monotone. \u201cWet Dream\u201d from their eponymous 2022 debut followed, and from there,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the Isle of Wight quintet was a breath of fresh air\u2014too often, the indie rock aesthetic tends to<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

be a little precious and a little too serious. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

None of that was on display as Teasdale strutted<\/em> around the stage, having traded her cottage-core dresses for a two piece outfit that wouldn\u2019t<\/em> have been out of place at a pop show, which is ultimately what Wet Leg have succeeded in<\/em> doing\u2014the mainstream quality of their music can\u2019t be ignored, and they know it. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much like<\/em> U2\u2019s transition from earnestness to irony in 1992, Wet Leg has pivoted sharply away from their<\/em> previous image and stage setup to one that can own a big stage, and own it they did, from the<\/em> debut of new tune \u201c11:21,\u201d to that cathartic scream in the breakdown of \u201cUr Mum,\u201d to the calland-<\/em> responses of \u201cChaise Longue\u201d\u2014the \u2018song that got [them] here,\u201d according to guitarist<\/em> Josh Mobaraki in his introduction.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExcuse me, Chicago?\u201d Teasdale quipped during the second verse, grinning madly at the roar<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

that came back from the sold-out crowd before ripping into the chorus. Equally affecting were<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the slower tunes like new single \u201cDavina McCall,\u201d the lush melodies of which at times called to<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

mind Scottish indie-popsters Camera Obscura.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Wet Leg\u2019s performance was wholly, unabashedly fun, and the band oozes an effortless kind of<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

confidence in what they\u2019re doing\u2014something that the current crop of pop artists have figured<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

out, and something that the current indie-rock scene could use a whole lot more of.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
