Iggy Pop’s concert at Chicago’s Salt Shed on March 24, 2025, was a testament to his enduring vitality and punk spirit. Despite being 77, an age near my own parents, one of which has a hard time getting in and out of his car, delivered a high-octane performance that left fans in awe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sold-out show saw the audience form a lively mosh pit, embodying the raw energy that has defined Pop’s power.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backing him was a dynamic band featuring horns, drums, a bassist and two guitarists, one of which was Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with his signature wine-red semi-hollowbody First Act and Gibson guitars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one he prefers for a thick, hard, rock sound. Which is perfect for Iggy’s songs. This ensemble added a rich, layered sound to the performance, blending traditional punk elements with a truly unique flair.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The setlist was a journey through Pop’s illustrious career, highlighting both solo works and Stooges classics like “Raw Power”, “Lust for Life”, “Death Trip”, “I Wanna Be Your Dog”, “Search and Destroy” “I’m Bored” played for the first time in almost a decade, and ending with the crowd favorite sing-a-long “Real Wild Child”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iggy took a moment during the show to reflect on his deep and personal connection with David Bowie. He shared a touching story about their friendship, reminiscing about how he wrote a poem that Bowie later turned into a song. It was a rare, personal glimpse, into the creative process behind some of the most iconic music of the ’70s, showing how Iggy and Bowie\u2019s bond wasn\u2019t just about music, but a shared artistic vision that, at one point, helped shape both their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pop’s perilous was shown throughout his hour and a half set. Jumping around, bouncing across the stage, rolling on the ground, hurling himself down to the pit and into the front of the crowd, the man is a machine. And he has looked the same for decades. Slim, fit, good hair and even with his lifelong physical medical issues, still outshines most performers half his age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salt Shed’s design and acoustics enhanced the experience, amplifying every guitar riff and vocal rasp, creating a rich and immersive environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

In a world where many his age have slowed down or stopped, The Godfather of Punk continues to defy expectations, proving that age is no barrier to delivering electrifying performances. This concert was a vivid reminder of his status as a true rock legend. One deserving of the moniker, Icon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
