It was a cool summer night Thursday at Ravinia and \u201cThat little ol\u2019 band from Texas\u201d made it even cooler. Gibbons and Hill strutted out wearing black leather jackets, (not cheap) sunglasses and hats after a video montage ended. They traded vocal duties on their opener \u201cGot Me Under Pressure,\u201d from their 1983 album \u201cEliminator<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n They went back to their blues-root rock sound with \u201cWaitin\u2019 for the Bus\u201d which segued into \u201cJesus Just Left Chicago\u201d which\u00a0got the crowd standing and cheering. \u201cGimme All Your Lovin\u2019\u201d was next, which had clips from the music video playing as Gibbons and Hill were swaying in unison. <\/p>\n After \u201cPincushion\u201d from the 1994 album \u201cAntenna<\/strong>,\u201d Billy Gibbons talked about the band and the rules.\u00a0\u201cSo we\u2019ve been coming around here (Chicago) with you guys for over four decades,\u201d Gibbons said. \u201cThe\u00a0same three guys… The same three chords.\u201d \u201cAnd we reminded there’s two rules here tonight,\u201d Gibbons added. \u201cRule number one, no drinking during Gospel songs. Rule number two, no Gospel songs” (in his trademark, deep grumble, undertone voice).<\/p>\n The band then launched into\u201cI\u2019m Bad, I\u2019m Nationwide\u201d which got the crowd singing along with the chorus. ZZ Top then played a couple from their last studio album \u201cLa Futura<\/strong>,\u201d \u201cI Gotsta Get Paid\u201d and \u201cFlyin\u2019 High.\u201d<\/p>\n Billy and the band did an awesome cover of \u201cFoxy Lady\u201d paying tribute to one of their idols, Jimi Hendrix. And they know the rules, when you come to\u00a0Chicago, you have to play the Blues. They did that with Dusty Hill doing a down and dirty version of \u201cCatfish Blues.\u201d<\/p>\n When they played \u201cMy Head\u2019s in Mississippi\u201d from the \u201cRecycler<\/strong>\u201d album, Billy changed the lyrics to \u201cMy Head\u2019s in Chicago\u201d which was another nice nod to the Chicago Blue\u2019s scene.<\/p>\n They ended the set with two more hits from the \u201cEliminator<\/strong>\u201d album, \u201cSharp Dressed Man\u201d and \u201cLegs,\u201d and breaking out their white fur-covered guitars for \u201cLegs.\u201d<\/p>\n Their first encore consisted of \u201cLa Grange,\u201d \u201cSloppy Drunk Jam\u201d and \u201cTush.\u201d They came out to do a second encore with the cover of Merle Travis\u2019 \u201cSixteen Tons.\u201d<\/p>\n For photos of the show, click\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
