





{"id":47313,"date":"2022-07-21T13:00:53","date_gmt":"2022-07-21T18:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/?p=47313"},"modified":"2022-07-21T12:50:24","modified_gmt":"2022-07-21T17:50:24","slug":"live-review-the-black-keys-live-at-hollywood-casino-amphitheatre-in-tinley-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/?p=47313","title":{"rendered":"Live Review: The Black Keys Live At Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre In Tinley Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Christopher David<\/p>\n<p>In a musical landscape dominated by a dozen internet-driven sub-genres every week or so, it can be tough to keep in mind that classics never go out of style.\u00a0 The classics in question?\u00a0 No-frills, no-bullshit blues that pays homage to the masters and manages to draw in new fans, which can be a tough road to travel without just the right combination of elements.\u00a0 And the blues was more alive and doing very well as The Black Keys landed for a nearly sold-out show in Tinley Park this Sunday to promote <em>Dropout Boogie<\/em>, their second new release in the last three years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47311\" src=\"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-15-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-15-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-15-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-15-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-15-120x80.jpg 120w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-15.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Starting off the night was Ceramic Animal, a Pennsylvania five-piece whose new album (<em>Sweet Unknown<\/em>, their fourth outing) was produced by The Black Keys\u2019 Dan Auerbach, and their sound anchored itself firmly in classic rock rhythms and melodies\u2014imagine a more contemporary Lynyrd Skynyrd or .38 Special without the southern flair.\u00a0\u00a0 And Band of Horses\u2014a bonafide American treasure at this point in their career\u2014blew through a nearly hour long set of some of their best tunes, from the plaintive melancholy of opener \u201cIs There A Ghost\u201d to the catchy chorus of \u201cNo One\u2019s Gonna Love You\u201d to the epic, fragile fan favorite \u201cThe Funeral\u201d; the Seattle quintet was the perfect compliment to the main event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47308\" src=\"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-12-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-12-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-12-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-12-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-12-120x80.jpg 120w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Black-Keys-Hollywood-Casino-Tinley-Park-07-17-22-12.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Black Keys have cracked a challenging code in the modern musical landscape: staying true to their style of garage-ifying classic blues tunes while adding their own material to the conversation and staying relevant\u2014hell, getting bigger with each album, actually, which is no small feat.\u00a0 Guitarist\/vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney have, like so many great bands, built a world around themselves, beholden to no one else\u2019s image or designs on their work.\u00a0 They\u2019ve come a long way since the rough-and-tumble swagger of \u201cBusted,\u201d a welcome treat from their very first album that was rolled out last night for the first time in well over ten years, and new tunes like the fiery \u201cWild Child\u201d and the thumping shuffle of \u201cYour Team is Looking Good\u201d fit in beautifully with the laundry list of hits as well as a \u2018mini-set\u2019 of blues covers from 2021\u2019s <em>Delta Kream, <\/em>the Keys\u2019 straightforward blaster of a covers album that ranks among their best work.\u00a0 Auerbach\u2019s take on John Lee Hooker\u2019s \u201cCrawlin\u2019 Kingsnake\u201d came across with every bit the snarl and pomp you\u2019d want, and Richard Berry\u2019s \u201cHave Love, Will Travel\u201d sounded, again, as if it could have come from any Keys\u2019 record in the last ten years.
