This performance is slated to be the first of many celebratory events scheduled to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Metro\/smartbar, which opened its doors and inevitably changed the live events landscape of the Midwest and beyond in July 1982.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tickets for Patti Smith and her band Live at Metro go on sale to the public this <strong>Friday, April 1st, 2022<\/strong> <\/span>at 10am and available at <b><a href=\"https:\/\/metrochicago.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=578180c751dcc66620e82cc41&amp;id=28a72a520b&amp;e=22cf9b5890\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">metrochicago.com <\/a><\/b>\/<b><a href=\"https:\/\/metrochicago.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=578180c751dcc66620e82cc41&amp;id=c178f96fc8&amp;e=22cf9b5890\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">etix.com<\/a><\/b> or the Metro Box Office at 3730 N Clark Street.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patti Smith, born in Chicago and raised in South Jersey, migrated to New York City in 1967. Her extensive achievements as a performer, author, recording, and visual artist are acknowledged worldwide. Meanwhile, 2022 marks the milestone 40th year anniversary of live event venue, Metro Chicago. Metro owner Joe Shanahan has spent the past 40 years contributing to the shaping of Chicago\u2019s music community from his post on North Clark Street. Comprised of Metro, Smartbar,and Gman Tavern, the family of music venues Shanahan and his devoted team have built over the decades has become one of the few remaining independently owned and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> operated music venues in the country. This Chicago connection brings Patti Smith to Metro to kick off the commemoration of Metro\u2019s 40th year.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Released in 1975, Smith\u2019s first recording, Horses, was inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress in 2010 by the National Recording Preservation Board. Her subsequent albums include Radio Ethiopia, Easter, which included Because the Night, co-written with Bruce Springsteen, Wave, Dream of Life, which included People Have the Power co-written with her late husband Fred Sonic Smith, Gone Again, Peace and Noise, Gung Ho, Trampin\u2019, Land, Twelve, Banga, and Outside Society. She is a four-time Grammy\u00ae nominee and a Golden Globe nominee for the song \u201cMercy Is\u201d co-written with Lenny Kay for the film Noah. In 2007 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her renowned band includes guitarist and author Lenny Kaye, who she has collaborated with since 1971, drummer Jay Dee Daugherty since 1975, Tony Shanahan on bass and keyboards, since 1996, and her son, guitarist Jackson Smith, for over a decade.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patti Smith was awarded the prestigious 2010 National Book Award for her bestselling memoir, <em>Just Kids<\/em>, chronicling her deep friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and the evolution of their work. Her books include <em>Witt, Babel, Woolgathering, The Coral Sea, Auguries of Innocence, Collected Lyrics, M Train, Devotion<\/em>, and <em>Year of the Monkey<\/em>. Smith\u2019s photographs, drawings, and installations have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At present Smith writes, performs, lending support for human-rights issues and environmental groups, primarily Pathway to Paris, a nonprofit organization co-founded by her daughter, Jesse Paris Smith, offering tangible solutions for combatting global climate. In May, Smith will receive the PEN Literary Service Award, and an honorary Doctorate from Columbia University.
