{"id":43965,"date":"2021-11-03T12:04:41","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T17:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/?p=43965"},"modified":"2021-11-03T12:12:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T17:12:16","slug":"the-annual-haunted-halsted-halloween-parade-continues-with-its-24th-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/?p=43965","title":{"rendered":"The Annual Haunted Halsted Halloween Parade Continues With It&#8217;s 24th Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Vernon Hester<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The 24th Annual Haunted Halsted [St.] Halloween Parade went off without a hitch on the evening of October 31 with no rain, no blistering cold, lots of drag queens and grease paint, a little bit of fire, and an abundance of originality to spare. There was a hint of moisture in the air but it did not rain though there was an appropriate chill\u00a0 [which explains the lack of scantily clad parade entrants from previous years], but the Parade [which took a break last year due to Covid-19] went on as planned. This event, which has been called the culmination of &#8220;Gay Christmas&#8221; has evolved into a PG Rated family entertainment and something of a &#8220;must-see&#8221; as every year hundreds of spectators skip the usual All Hallows Eve traditions to meet at Halsted st. and Belmont Ave for a different kind of trick or treat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-43967\" src=\"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Halsted-Halloween-Parade-Chicago-2021-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"853\" height=\"568\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Halsted-Halloween-Parade-Chicago-2021-02.jpg 853w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Halsted-Halloween-Parade-Chicago-2021-02-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Halsted-Halloween-Parade-Chicago-2021-02-768x511.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Halsted-Halloween-Parade-Chicago-2021-02-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This year there were celebrities [Matthew Rodrigues of Chicago Today on NBC 5 and Batty Davis of Lips Chicago], a rock and roll cover band which kept the awards segment moving with familiar hits [I Pop was the band], and $6,000 in prizes given away in the costume competitions.
