Singer\/guitarist Dana Foote weaves clever, subtle narratives into her ear-worm melodies, and the result with songs like \u201cAnimal\u201d and new song \u201cHome Where\u201d is classic, guitar-driven indie rock on par with the best of \u201cbedroom\u201d popsters like Lois Maffeo and a hint of Lida Husik. A pitch-perfect, distortion-drenched cover of the Velvet Underground\u2019s \u201cFemme Fatale\u201d was a welcome addition to the set as well &#8211; keep an eye on Foote, as she\u2019s on track to do great things, as her debut album <em>Party Favors<\/em> has already suggested.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42710\" src=\"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/31910665_214068905849325_5509204994970091520_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1461\" height=\"2048\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/31910665_214068905849325_5509204994970091520_n.jpg 1461w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/31910665_214068905849325_5509204994970091520_n-214x300.jpg 214w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/31910665_214068905849325_5509204994970091520_n-731x1024.jpg 731w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/31910665_214068905849325_5509204994970091520_n-768x1077.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1461px) 100vw, 1461px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If there\u2019s one thing about Chicago, it\u2019s that we\u2019re never lacking for musical talent; it\u2019s lurking everywhere and you could never hope to keep up with all of it, so getting a set from the incredibly talented Neal Francis and his well-oiled machine of a band was a real treat. Evoking the spirit of Dr. John, Wings-era McCartney, and the great Billy Preston, Francis\u2019 piano-driven tunes offered ample opportunity for interplay between him and his stellar band. Leaning into new material on Sunday that made good on the promise of Francis\u2019s 2019 album <em>Changes,<\/em> one couldn\u2019t help but think of the many connections between Chicago and New Orleans\u2019 classic boogie-woogie sound that provided the foundation for much of Francis\u2019s song structures.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42711\" src=\"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-1.jpg 512w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-1-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Taking the festival out on the first of two fronts was Band of Horses, singer\/songwriter Ben Bridwell\u2019s Americana quintet that, much like Chicago\u2019s own Wilco, straddles a line between styles in a way that manages to bring rock and folk Americana together more deftly than most could hope. Bridwell\u2019s melodies and vocal style overflow with melancholy even in their happier moments, and the bittersweet bombast of closer \u201cThe Funeral\u201d played against the Chicago dusk made for some incredible atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42712\" src=\"https:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/foo-fighters-press-photo-2020-billboard-1548-1583250501-1024x677-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"677\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/foo-fighters-press-photo-2020-billboard-1548-1583250501-1024x677-1.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/foo-fighters-press-photo-2020-billboard-1548-1583250501-1024x677-1-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/foo-fighters-press-photo-2020-billboard-1548-1583250501-1024x677-1-768x508.jpg 768w, http:\/\/beintheloopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/foo-fighters-press-photo-2020-billboard-1548-1583250501-1024x677-1-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By the time Foo Fighters arrived, there\u2019s no telling how many times attendees had to rally over since Thursday\u2014but Dave Grohl and Co. made it worth everyone\u2019s while with a set that touched on every era of the band\u2019s storied career and still managed to offer some surprises. A slow burning \u201cTimes Like These\u201d started the night off from a whisper to a scream as the band dropped in midway through on all cylinders, Grohl stalking the stage like a feral animal uncaged. Say what you want about the Foo Fighters\u2014their energy and passion onstage is nearly unmatched in the current concert landscape. \u201cMy Hero,\u201d \u201cThis Is A Call,\u201d and even a cover of \u201cSomebody to Love\u201d with drummer Taylor Hawkins swapping out on vocals while Grohl returned to the drum kit (and Hawkins\u2019 homemade Jane\u2019s Addiction shirt was a nice touch, given the occasion).
