Returning to the outdoor sculpture garden this summer, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago hosts the popular jazz concert series Tuesdays on the Terrace featuring Chicago\u2019s quintessential jazz musicians performing on the MCA\u2019s terrace. Every Tuesday evening from June 1 to August 31, 2021, Tuesdays on the Terrace features a line-up of the city\u2019s premiere jazz vocalists, composers, and instrumentalists and is free to the public with advance reservations.<\/p>\n

Presented in a safe, socially distant format, visitors can enjoy light fare and refreshments from the bar, and bring their own food while relaxing on the terrace and sculpture garden lawn. Reservations for individuals and groups are limited due to capacity restrictions and will be available online starting Wednesday, May 18, at noon at www.mcachicago.org<\/a> or by calling the MCA Box Office at 312.397.4010. The performances take place from 5:30-8 pm every Tuesday with support from Luminarts and media sponsor WDCB 90.9 FM.<\/p>\n

The MCA also hosts the SOAR Farmers Market on the front plaza from 7 am to 2 pm every Tuesday from June 1 to October 25, 2021. Vendors at the European-style outdoor market offer ready-to-eat lunch options and a colorful variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, cut and potted flowers, baked goods, cheeses, and spices. Out of the more than 30 popular Farmers Markets throughout Chicago, the SOAR Farmers Market at the MCA is the only one in the Streeterville area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Every Tuesday at the MCA is Community Free Day, when Illinois residents receive free admission to museum exhibitions and the museum is open late until 9 pm. This summer, visitors to the Farmers Market and Tuesdays on the Terrace are invited into the galleries to explore the highly anticipated exhibition Chicago Comics: 1960s to Now, a celebration of Chicago\u2019s pivotal role as a national and innovative center for comics and cartooning. With a focus on rediscovering the work of women and BIPOC comic artists, this major exhibition presents the last 60 years of the city\u2019s artful cartooning history, showing how comic art is a democratic medium that allows artists to speak directly to people in relatable ways.<\/p>\n

On view from June 19 to October 3, 2021, Chicago Comics: 1960s to Now explores the ways that artists use comics not only to entertain readers, but to engage them in the relevant social and political issues of their time. Over 40 cartoonists, among them Lynda Barry, Lilli Carr\u00e9, Daniel Clowes, Nick Drnaso, Edie Fake, Emil Ferris, Nicole Hollander, Charles Johnson, Kerry James Marshall, and Chris Ware, among many others are represented by comics, graphic novels, zines, original drawings, dioramas, commissioned films, installations, rare ephemera, and books.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
