Saturday, August 1, my Lollapalooza 2015\u00a0journey continues.\u00a0Here are the bands that\u00a0I was able to check out on Saturday.<\/p>\n
2:15 – Django Django @ Samsung Galaxy:\u00a0Django Django\u2019s got their fans\u00a0jumping and dancing when they played \u201cShake and Tremble\u201d from their latest album, Born Under Saturn<\/strong>. \u00a0The band used a lot of instruments during their set, such as a\u00a0saxophone, a super-sized tambourine, maracas, and a guiro (a hollow gourd percussion instrument which\u00a0produces a ratchet-like sound) to help the crowd dance along to their catchy beats and harmonies. Vincent Neff said that\u00a0this was\u00a0his second Lollapalooza, as he came to the festival from Ireland when he was 15 years old.<\/p>\n 3:00 – Charli XCX @ Sprint: She had the festival’s most interesting greeting, “Fuck you sucker!” when she ran out onto the stage. The crowd was singing along when she sang\u00a0“Fancy,” a song she wrote for Iggy Azalea. She also gets the best air guitar award for Lollapalooza when she brought out a\u00a0huge\u00a0inflatable guitar for\u00a0“Breaking Up.”<\/p>\n 4:10 – Beat Connection @ Toyota Tent: I had some time to kill before seeing White Sea so I decided to check out\u00a0Beat Connection at the Toyota Tent. They are a four piece\u00a0electronic party rock band who sound like have been inspired by\u00a0Public Image Ltd. and\u00a0the KLF. If I had the time, I would have liked to check out their earlier set at the\u00a0Palladia stage.<\/p>\n 4:30 – White Sea @ BMI:\u00a0Morgan Kibby, formerly of M83, was so impressed with the turn out at the BMI stage that she said she wanted to marry everyone who was there. Her new band White Sea, an electro-pop five piece band, complemented Morgan’s powerful ethereal voice. The highlight of their set was Kibby\u2019s latest single \u201cStay Young, Get Stoned\u201d. I will\u00a0definitely see them again when they return to Chicago.<\/p>\n 6:00 – Tame Impala\u00a0@ Samsung Galaxy: The Australian psychedelic rock band\u00a0got the crowd grooving by opening with \u201cLet It Happen\u201d. I saw\u00a0a lot of fans doing Grateful Dead dance grooves to their hit songs\u00a0\u201cFeels Like We Only Go Backwards\u201d and \u201cElephant\u201d which were enhanced with\u00a0Pink Floyd like videos playing on the screens behind the band. \u00a0I felt that Tame Impala should have had a larger\u00a0crowd due to\u00a0the recent release of their third album,\u00a0Currents<\/strong> which has been rated as a highly anticipated album\u00a0for this year.<\/p>\n 8:00 – Metallica\u00a0@ Samsung Galaxy: “You want heavy?” James Hetfield shouted to the\u00a0Lollapalooza crowd. That what the Metallica\u00a0fans got when they opened with\u00a0“Fuel” and “For Whom the Bells Toll.” I was a little distracted at the beginning of their set by the swarm of dragon flies overhead, as it seemed like a drone attack on Grant Park.\u00a0James also asked, “How many Metallica\u00a0virgins are here?” “If you don’t know what to do, just look around at the people who have been here before.. and they’ll show you how to have some fun!”<\/p>\n Metallica played songs from their entire catalogue including\u00a0“Sanitarium,” “One” and “Master of Puppets” as well as performing\u00a0well-known covers \u201cWhiskey in the Jar\u201d (Thin Lizzy) and \u201cAm I Evil\u201d (Diamond Head).
