SMARTBAR TO REPRISE MONTHLONG DAPHNE SHOWCASE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daphne, a celebration of electronic artists that identify outside of dominant gender vectors, will be returning for its fourth iteration this March.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In continuation of electronic music legend Daphne Oram\u2019s work and tradition, smartbar is excited to announce the fourth iteration\u00a0of\u00a0DAPHNE<\/strong>.\u00a0Tickets for all shows comprising the monthlong series are ON SALE NOW<\/strong>. Full event announcements and details can be found below.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the work and spirit of electronic music pioneer Daphne Oram, smartbar\u2019s DAPHNE series is a monthlong showcase celebrating electronic artists that identify outside of dominant gender vectors. The overarching goal of DAPHNE is to unite members of the electronic music community who work outside of the privileges of the cis-male-dominated industry. DAPHNE will kick off on Thursday, March 1, with Chicago\u2019s own HIROKO YAMAMURA <\/strong>and wrap with a performance from former Smartbar Talent Buyer and international powerhouse THE BLACK MADONNA <\/strong>on Saturday, March 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally, I\u2019ve learned and grown from each successive edition of DAPHNE,\u201d smartbar Talent Buyer Jason Garden says. \u201cThis year, in particular, I tried to do a better job of stepping aside to let the residents\u2014particularly those who operate outside the dominant vector of gender\u2014direct the course of the good ship DAPHNE. While I can serve as a good switchboard for the conversation, it\u2019s not really my voice that needs to be heard. After all, the ultimate goal of the series, at least for me, is to render DAPHNE redundant because inclusivity and representation will be an every day thing. We\u2019re getting there\u2014I\u2019m getting there\u2014but, for now, DAPHNE endures.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with a month\u2019s worth of shows, DAPHNE will also entail a series of free workshops open to the public. These sessions will include\u00a0a hands-on DJ workshop, a music community symposium, and more. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements.<\/p>\n
