The group had a mostly<a title=\"Underground music\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Underground_music\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">underground<\/a>\u00a0following in\u00a0<a title=\"Chicago\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a>\u00a0basements,\u00a0<a title=\"Nightclub\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nightclub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clubs<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Bar (establishment)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bar_(establishment)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bars<\/a>\u00a0in its early years.<sup id=\"cite_ref-pan_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-pan-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[5]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-rap_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-rap-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The band is best known in the USA for the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"List of number-one hits (United States)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_number-one_hits_(United_States)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number-one<\/a>\u00a0hit song &#8220;<a title=\"Hey There Delilah\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hey_There_Delilah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hey There Delilah<\/a>&#8220;, which achieved\u00a0<a title=\"RIAA certification\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/RIAA_certification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">platinum status<\/a>\u00a0in 2007 and earned two\u00a0<a title=\"Grammy Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grammy_Award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grammy<\/a>\u00a0nominations,<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0as well as &#8220;<a title=\"1234 (Plain White T&#039;s song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1234_(Plain_White_T%27s_song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1234<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a title=\"Rhythm of Love (Plain White T&#039;s song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rhythm_of_Love_(Plain_White_T%27s_song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhythm of Love<\/a>&#8220;, which were certified platinum in 2009 and 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The Plain White T&#8217;s was formed in Lombard in fall 1997. The group began as a trio, with Higgenson as singer and guitarist, Fletcher on bass guitar and Tirio on drums.<sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[8]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0They played mostly local punk shows in Chicago&#8217;s suburbs, eventually having gigs at the Metro in Chicago&#8217;s Wrigleyville neighborhood. As the band began to establish itself in the local scene, a fourth member was recruited, Steve Mast, who joined playing lead guitar and sang backing vocals.<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[9]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Higgenson broke several vertebrae in a car crash in 1999<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[10]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0while driving the band&#8217;s van. He was in a back brace for three months and had to learn to walk again. Higgenson changed his song-writing process, choosing songs that were more meaningful to him, and the band began taking its music career more seriously.<sup id=\"cite_ref-11\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[11]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In 2000, the band recorded its first album, titled\u00a0<i>Come On Over<\/i>. In 2002, the band self-financed the recording of\u00a0<i>Stop<\/i>, a full-length album that attracted the attention of Fearless Records. While the band toured in support for the album, both Fletcher and Mast left and were replaced by Tim Lopez and Mike Retondo. Shortly after, Tirio decided to switch from drumming to rhythm guitar, and a new drummer named De&#8217;Mar Hamiltion was added to the line-up.<\/p>\n<p>The 2005 release,\u00a0<i>All That We Needed&#8217;,&#8217; was the first studio album from the reformed line-up.<sup id=\"cite_ref-12\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[12]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;<a title=\"Hey There Delilah\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hey_There_Delilah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hey There Delilah<\/a>&#8221; was first released on their third album,<\/i>\u00a0<a title=\"All That We Needed\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All_That_We_Needed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All That We Needed<\/a><i>, in 2005. They recorded<\/i>\u00a0Every Second Counts\u00a0<i>that year, on which &#8220;Hey There Delilah&#8221; was added in order to allow it a chance on mainstream radio. The band signed with\u00a0<a title=\"Hollywood Records\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hollywood_Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hollywood Records<\/a>, which released<\/i>\u00a0Every Second Counts\u00a0<i>on September 12, 2006. That same year, &#8220;Hey There Delilah&#8221; reached #1 on the<\/i>\u00a0Billboard\u00a0<i>Hot 100 chart for two weeks.<sup id=\"cite_ref-13\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[13]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The song was written for the track star\u00a0<a title=\"Delilah DiCrescenzo\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Delilah_DiCrescenzo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delilah DiCrescenzo<\/a>, whom Higgenson had met in 2002. The song received two Grammy nominations, and<\/i>\u00a0Every Second Counts\u00a0<i>was certified gold.<sup id=\"cite_ref-14\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[14]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In early 2006, the band teamed up with\u00a0<a title=\"Motion City Soundtrack\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Motion_City_Soundtrack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motion City Soundtrack<\/a>\u00a0for a winter\/spring tour.<sup id=\"cite_ref-15\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[15]<\/a><\/sup><\/i><\/p>\n<p>In 2008, they released the album\u00a0<i><a title=\"Big Bad World\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Bad_World\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Bad World<\/a><\/i>. The album had two hit singles: &#8220;<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"1, 2, 3, 4 (Plain White T&#039;s song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1,_2,_3,_4_(Plain_White_T%27s_song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1, 2, 3, 4<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a title=\"Natural Disaster (Plain White T&#039;s song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Natural_Disaster_(Plain_White_T%27s_song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Natural Disaster<\/a>&#8220;. Both were on the\u00a0<a title=\"American Top 40\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Top_40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Top 40<\/a>\u00a0at numbers 1 and 2 for three consecutive weeks.<sup id=\"cite_ref-chart_16-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-chart-16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[16]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0By late 2008, the band had joined the\u00a0<i>Rock Band Live<\/i>\u00a0tour with\u00a0<a title=\"Panic! at the Disco\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Panic!_at_the_Disco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Panic! at the Disco<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Dashboard Confessional\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dashboard_Confessional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dashboard Confessional<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"The Cab\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Cab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Cab<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-17\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[17]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Later that year, the band played at the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Give It a Name\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Give_It_a_Name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Give It a Name<\/a>\u00a0festival in the UK.<sup id=\"cite_ref-18\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[18]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In 2007, they performed the single &#8220;Our Time Now&#8221; on an episode of the Nickelodeon television series,\u00a0<i><a title=\"ICarly\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ICarly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iCarly<\/a><\/i>. &#8220;Our Time Now&#8221; was also the theme song of the ABC Family dramedy series,\u00a0<i><a title=\"Greek (TV series)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greek_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greek<\/a><\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-19\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[19]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The band&#8217;s &#8220;<a title=\"Rhythm of Love (Plain White T&#039;s song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rhythm_of_Love_(Plain_White_T%27s_song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhythm of Love<\/a>&#8221; single was the first to be released from their 2010 album,\u00a0<i><a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"The Wonders of the Younger\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Wonders_of_the_Younger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wonders of the Younger<\/a><\/i>. The song reached number five on the Hot AC chart, and was in the top ten in 2010 as well.<sup id=\"cite_ref-chart_16-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-chart-16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[16]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In 2012, the band also covered\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"The Ramones\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Ramones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Ramones<\/a>&#8216; &#8220;<a title=\"Brain Drain (album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brain_Drain_(album)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pet Sematary<\/a>&#8221; for the\u00a0<a title=\"Frankenweenie (soundtrack)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frankenweenie_(soundtrack)#Frankenweenie_Unleashed.21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">song soundtrack<\/a>\u00a0of the 2012 Disney film<i><a title=\"Frankenweenie (2012 film)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frankenweenie_(2012_film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frankenweenie<\/a><\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Wyman_20-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-Wyman-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[20]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0<i><a title=\"Should&#039;ve Gone to Bed\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Should%27ve_Gone_to_Bed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Should&#8217;ve Gone to Bed<\/a><\/i>, a four-song EP, was released on April 9, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The band left Hollywood Records after creative conflicts with the label during the production of the\u00a0<i><a title=\"American Nights\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Nights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Nights<\/a><\/i>\u00a0album.<sup id=\"cite_ref-21\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plain_white_t%27s#cite_note-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[21]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0<i>American Nights<\/i>\u00a0was released by<a title=\"Megaforce Records\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Megaforce_Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Megaforce Records<\/a>\u00a0on March 31, 2015.
