The band consists of vocalist\/guitarist\u00a0<a title=\"Patrick Stump\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patrick_Stump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patrick Stump<\/a>, bassist\u00a0<a title=\"Pete Wentz\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pete_Wentz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pete Wentz<\/a>, guitarist\u00a0<a title=\"Joe Trohman\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Trohman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Trohman<\/a>, and drummer\u00a0<a title=\"Andy Hurley\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andy_Hurley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Hurley<\/a>. The band originated from Chicago&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"Hardcore punk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hardcore_punk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hardcore punk<\/a>\u00a0scene, with which Wentz was heavily involved. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a\u00a0<a title=\"Pop punk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pop_punk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pop punk<\/a>\u00a0side project of their respective hardcore bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording their debut album,\u00a0<i><a title=\"Take This to Your Grave\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Take_This_to_Your_Grave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Take This to Your Grave<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2003), which became an underground success and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase through heavy touring, as well as some moderate commercial success.<\/p>\n<p>With Wentz as the band&#8217;s lyricist and Stump as the primary composer, the band&#8217;s 2005 major-label breakthrough,\u00a0<i><a title=\"From Under the Cork Tree\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/From_Under_the_Cork_Tree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From Under the Cork Tree<\/a><\/i>, produced two hit singles, &#8220;<a title=\"Sugar, We&#039;re Goin Down\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sugar,_We%27re_Goin_Down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sugar, We&#8217;re Goin Down<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a title=\"Dance, Dance (Fall Out Boy song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dance,_Dance_(Fall_Out_Boy_song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dance, Dance<\/a>,&#8221; and went\u00a0<a title=\"RIAA certification\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/RIAA_certification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">double platinum<\/a>, transforming the group into superstars and making Wentz a celebrity and tabloid fixture.
