The band currently consists of vocalist\/rhythm guitarist\u00a0<a title=\"Tim McIlrath\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tim_McIlrath\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim McIlrath<\/a>, lead guitarist\u00a0<a title=\"Zach Blair\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zach_Blair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zach Blair<\/a>, bassist\u00a0<a title=\"Joe Principe\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Principe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Principe<\/a>\u00a0and drummer\u00a0<a title=\"Brandon Barnes\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brandon_Barnes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brandon Barnes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The band spent its first five years signed to the independent record label\u00a0<a title=\"Fat Wreck Chords\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fat_Wreck_Chords\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fat Wreck Chords<\/a>, on which it released two studio albums,\u00a0<i><a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"The Unraveling (Rise Against album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Unraveling_(Rise_Against_album)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Unraveling<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2001) and\u00a0<i><a title=\"Revolutions per Minute (Rise Against album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Revolutions_per_Minute_(Rise_Against_album)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Revolutions per Minute<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2003). Both the albums met with considerable underground success, and in 2003 the band signed with the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Major label\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_label\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">major label<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Geffen Records\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Geffen_Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geffen<\/a>. Their major label debut\u00a0<i><a title=\"Siren Song of the Counter Culture\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Siren_Song_of_the_Counter_Culture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Siren Song of the Counter Culture<\/a><\/i>\u00a0brought the band mainstream success, producing several successful singles. Their next two albums,\u00a0<i><a title=\"The Sufferer &amp; the Witness\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Sufferer_%26_the_Witness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Sufferer &amp; the Witness<\/a><\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i><a title=\"Appeal to Reason\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Appeal_to_Reason\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Appeal to Reason<\/a><\/i>, were also successful and peaked at number ten and number three on the\u00a0<a title=\"Billboard 200\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billboard_200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Billboard<\/i>\u00a0200<\/a>\u00a0chart, respectively.\u00a0<i>Appeal to Reason<\/i>\u00a0was followed three years later by<i><a title=\"Endgame (Rise Against album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Endgame_(Rise_Against_album)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Endgame<\/a><\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-sixthalbum_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rise_against#cite_note-sixthalbum-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0All four albums released via Geffen were certified\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Canadian Recording Industry Association\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canadian_Recording_Industry_Association\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">platinum<\/a>\u00a0in Canada, while\u00a0<i>Siren Song of the Counter Culture<\/i>,\u00a0<i>The Sufferer &amp; the Witness<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Appeal to Reason<\/i>\u00a0were certified\u00a0<a title=\"RIAA certification\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/RIAA_certification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gold<\/a>\u00a0in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Rise Against is also known for their\u00a0<a title=\"Advocacy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Advocacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocacy<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<a title=\"Progressivism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Progressivism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">progressive<\/a>\u00a0organizations such as\u00a0<a title=\"Amnesty International\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amnesty_International\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amnesty International<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"It Gets Better Project\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/It_Gets_Better_Project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It Gets Better Project<\/a>.
