With his second solo LP\u00a0Cosmic Lottery<\/em>\u00a0set to release this December 10th, Chicago-based
\nsinger-songwriter Christopher David returns with his strongest record yet.
\nComprised of 11 tracks, including new single \u201cIndigo,\u201d\u00a0Lottery\u00a0<\/em>builds on David\u2019s
\nsignature style of melodic alt-rock\/pop; the album will be his fourth release in two years.
\n\u201cIt wasn\u2019t really my intention to machine-gun people with music,\u201d David notes. \u201cI just
\nwrite and record a lot of material, and after\u00a0The Houdini Tapes<\/em>\u00a0[David\u2019s 2016 debut], I
\nhad a ridiculous amount of stuff – something like 40 or 50 songs. I started putting
\ntogether another full-length right away, but as it happened, [2016\u2019s]\u00a0Stereopsis\u00a0<\/em>and
\n[2017\u2019s]\u00a0Universe of One<\/em>\u00a0just came together as tight little EPs, so I went with those,
\nwhich gave me time to really think about what I wanted to do for a second album. In
\nhindsight, I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t rush – I think this is the most focused record I\u2019ve made.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lyrically, David has always concentrated on narrative, and\u00a0Cosmic Lottery<\/em>\u00a0continues
\nthat tradition. From the tragic characters wandering through the jangly chords of
\n\u201cOriana\u201d and \u201cDisintegrate\u201d to the self-destructive antagonist and swirling guitars of
\n\u201cGolden Anxiety Flowers\u201d to the haunting reverb of \u201cPyramid\u201d (which David jokingly
\ndescribes as \u201cif H.P. Lovecraft had written a breakup song\u201d), the album is a continuing
\nstudy of everyday people sorting through darkness in hopes of finding peace.
\n\u201cThematically, I\u2019ve always been interested in the emotional response to crisis – how
\npeople cope, the crazy, weird, funny, unsettling things they do in the face of trauma,\u201d
\nDavid says. \u201cGoing through upheaval of any sort inevitably brings you to a new place,
\nand I\u2019m really interested in the kind of chaos that exists in that space, that transition. I
\ntry to capture that in snapshots – and musically, it\u2019s about finding the right moments in
\nthose stories to devote four minutes to, you know? That\u2019s the fun challenge of writing
\nwhat I suppose would be referred to as pop music, at some level.\u201d<\/p>\n

And as far as the album\u2019s wall-to-wall hooks?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to keep people humming if your tunes are going to resonate,\u201d David smiles.
\n\u201cYou have to want to start the record over the second it’s done. And I think the replay
\nvalue is high on this one!\u201d<\/p>\n

Cosmic Lottery<\/em>\u00a0will be released December 10th, digitally as well as on CD and vinyl,
\nwith the vinyl version to include a series of photo prints and lyrics. \u201cIndigo\u201d is now
\navailable digitally with a limited 7\u201d version coming later this year that features \u201cLost
\nChild (of the \u201870s),\u201d an outtake from the\u00a0Lottery\u00a0<\/em>sessions. Additionally, 2018 will see
\nDavid on his first series of national tour dates in support of the album.<\/p>\n
