The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of\u00a0<a title=\"Alternative country\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alternative_country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alternative country<\/a>\u00a0group\u00a0<a title=\"Uncle Tupelo\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uncle_Tupelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uncle Tupelo<\/a>\u00a0following singer\u00a0<a title=\"Jay Farrar\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jay_Farrar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jay Farrar<\/a>&#8216;s departure. Wilco&#8217;s lineup changed frequently during its first decade, with only singer\u00a0<a title=\"Jeff Tweedy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeff_Tweedy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeff Tweedy<\/a>\u00a0and bassist\u00a0<a title=\"John Stirratt\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Stirratt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Stirratt<\/a>\u00a0remaining from the original incarnation. Since early 2004, the lineup has been unchanged, consisting of Tweedy, Stirratt, guitarist\u00a0<a title=\"Nels Cline\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nels_Cline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nels Cline<\/a>, multi-instrumentalist\u00a0<a title=\"Pat Sansone\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pat_Sansone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pat Sansone<\/a>, keyboard player\u00a0<a title=\"Mikael Jorgensen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mikael_Jorgensen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mikael Jorgensen<\/a>, and drummer\u00a0<a title=\"Glenn Kotche\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Glenn_Kotche\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glenn Kotche<\/a>. Wilco has released eight studio albums, a live double album, and four collaborations: three with\u00a0<a title=\"Billy Bragg\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billy_Bragg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Billy Bragg<\/a>\u00a0and one with\u00a0<a title=\"The Minus 5\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Minus_5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Minus 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wilco&#8217;s music has been inspired by a wide variety of artists and styles, including\u00a0<a title=\"Bill Fay\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_Fay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill Fay<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"The Beatles\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Beatles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Beatles<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Television (band)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Television_(band)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Television<\/a>, and has in turn influenced music by a number of modern alternative rock acts. The band continued in the alternative country of Uncle Tupelo on its debut album\u00a0<i><a title=\"A.M. (Wilco album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/A.M._(Wilco_album)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A.M.<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(1995), but has since introduced more\u00a0<a title=\"Experimental music\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Experimental_music\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">experimental<\/a>\u00a0aspects to their music, including elements of alternative rock and classic pop. Wilco&#8217;s musical style has evolved from a 1990s country rock sound to a current &#8220;eclectic\u00a0<a title=\"Indie rock\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indie_rock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indie rock<\/a>\u00a0collective that touches on many eras and genres.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wilco#cite_note-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Wilco garnered media attention for its fourth album,\u00a0<i><a title=\"Yankee Hotel Foxtrot\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yankee_Hotel_Foxtrot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yankee Hotel Foxtrot<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2002), and the controversy surrounding it. After the recording sessions were complete,\u00a0<a title=\"Reprise Records\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reprise_Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reprise Records<\/a>\u00a0rejected the album and dismissed Wilco from the label. As part of a buy-out deal, Reprise gave Wilco the rights to the album for free. After streaming\u00a0<i>Foxtrot<\/i>\u00a0on its website, Wilco sold the album to\u00a0<a title=\"Nonesuch Records\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nonesuch_Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nonesuch Records<\/a>\u00a0in 2002. Both record labels are subsidiaries of\u00a0<a title=\"Warner Music Group\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warner_Music_Group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warner Music Group<\/a>, leading one critic to say the album showed &#8220;how screwed up the music business is in the early twenty-first century.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wilco#cite_note-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><i>Yankee Hotel Foxtrot<\/i>\u00a0is Wilco&#8217;s most successful release to date, selling over 670,000 copies. Wilco won two\u00a0<a title=\"Grammy Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grammy_Award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grammy Awards<\/a>\u00a0for their fifth studio album, 2004&#8217;s\u00a0<i><a title=\"A Ghost Is Born\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/A_Ghost_Is_Born\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Ghost Is Born<\/a><\/i>, including\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Best Alternative Music Album\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Best_Alternative_Music_Album\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Best Alternative Music Album<\/a>.
