Sawyer Brown took the stage at the Blue Gate Event Center in Shipshewana, Indiana for their first show of 2017.\u00a0 The group, from Nashville TN, is made up of Mark Miller (Lead Singer), Gregg \u201cHobie\u201d Hubbard (Keyboards), Shayne Hill (Lead Guitar), Jim Scholten (Bass Guitar) and Joe Smyth (Drummer). Mark & Gregg are from Apoka, Fl. they started playing music together in high school, they met up with the rest of the band as they worked as Don King\u2019s band in 1979.\u00a0 Taking their name from the street where they rehearsed in Nashville, they became Sawyer Brown. They went onto the talent show \u201cStar Search\u201d winning the $100,000 prize from Ed McMahon in 1983. As Mark Miller says, \u201cWe were the original American Idols\u201d.<\/p>\n
The first time we saw them was when they opened for Kenny Rogers and Ray Charles at the Allstate Arena in 1984. Mark\u2019s energetic dance moves on stage have not changed in 36 years, if anything he still amazes the crowd that he can move like that. From their first number 1 \u201cStep That Step\u201d video that featured Comedian Gallagher, to their other hit songs made into videos \u201cSix Days on the Road\u201d, \u201cSome Girls Do\u201d, \u201cThe Boys and Me\u201d and \u201cThe Dirt Road\u201d they are still having fun and entertaining the crowd for the entire 90 minute show. They throw in a few other hits like \u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d and \u201cRock\u2019n Me\u201d sung by Shayne and Gregg belts out a great \u201c Life\u2019s Been Good\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Stop\u201d.<\/p>\n
